Controlled Airspace
Don’t be intimidated by air traffic control — at Helifly, it becomes part of your everyday training. Located at Albury Airport within Class D controlled airspace, Helifly gives students regular exposure to real radio procedures, clearances, and controlled aerodrome operations, while also providing easy access to multiple nearby uncontrolled aerodromes.
Albury’s controlled airspace is significantly less busy than many major city training environments, meaning less time waiting on the ground and more time spent flying. This gives you the best of both worlds: the confidence to operate professionally in controlled airspace, and the practical skills to manage operations in uncontrolled environments.
By the time you complete your training, you’ll be better prepared for the variety of airspace and aerodromes you may encounter when flying throughout Australia.
Low-Level Training Area
Helifly has its own dedicated low-level flying area just five minutes from the airfield, giving students direct access to a realistic training environment without wasting valuable flight time. Rather than simply simulating low-level operations, our training takes place amongst genuine terrain, trees, hills, and confined areas — helping students develop practical skills, confidence, and sound decision-making in the environment they are training for. Our low-level and confined area training is some of the best on offer.
Flying in the Alpine Region
Training at Helifly gives students the opportunity to experience the incredible Alpine Region from the air. You’ll fly amongst some of Australia’s highest mountains, developing the awareness, confidence, and practical skills required to operate safely in a demanding and constantly changing environment. Mountainous terrain and high density altitude flying challenges pilots to plan and think ahead, read the conditions, and manage the aircraft with precision — This makes for unforgettable experiences and valuable skills learned as a part of your helicopter training.

In-House Examiner & Testing
At Helifly, we’re able to conduct our own in-house flight testing, making the training process smoother and more convenient for our students. PPL, CPL, endorsements, and other approved training can be tested directly by Marianne, helping reduce the additional cost, time, and hassle often involved in arranging an external flight examiner.
In-House Theory Training
Helifly conducts an in-house Private Pilot theory course over two weeks, offered as required. Our instructors guide students through the essential knowledge needed for the CASA Private Pilot Theory Exam, which is completed at the end of the course.
For students working towards a Commercial Pilot Licence, this course also provides a strong foundation across the seven CASA theory subjects, giving you the knowledge and confidence to continue your studies and prepare for each exam. We strongly believe students who complete structured theory training with Helifly are better prepared, less likely to struggle with self-study, and more likely to achieve strong results with fewer exam attempts.

Albury Wodonga offers excellent regional facilities, making it a comfortable and convenient place to train.
